The Graafsewijk in Den Bosch is a working-class district where in the past (2000 and 2005) severe riots have been taken place. Ever since this area is known for its 'bad reputation’. I moved to Den Bosch only in 2011 and was wondering: who are the people living there and what is their story? What about my preconceptions created through the media? I started visiting the area on a daily basis for approximately six months and concluded that also a lot of care and solidarity can be found.
This series was my graduation project at the Photo Academy Amsterdam in May 2016. Thereafter it was published in De Volkskrant and in Hollandse Beelden’s first issue, in august. It was exhibited at Unframed graduate expo in Amsterdam Roest in May, and shown in a solo-exhibition in the Verkadefabriek Den Bosch in October that year. In addition, I was interviewed about it during the first Hollandse Beelden Live Edition in Pakhuis de Zwijger, in February 2017.
