Tackling food waste

  • John van Hamond_The Lunchproject1 John van Hamond_The Lunchproject1 The Netherlands, ’s-Hertogenbosch. Dutch foundation ‘Pastoraal Uitzendbureau’ (PUB) offers mostly homeless people the opportunity to jointly work - for a little allowance - on PUB’s projects. The main goal is to develop social relationships and to find a place in society. Running projects for instance are the bicycle workshop and the lumber project. Since November last year PUB collects expired food products from Dutch supermarket Coop on a daily basis. These products cannot be used via the food bank and would thus considered to be waste. Nevertheless, these products are now used for a good lunch for approximately 30 persons, daily. Preparing and consuming the lunch together contributes to the core values of PUB and, moreover, is a good initiative in fighting food waste.
